Pope Francis has said that he hopes to travel to Papua New Guinea and East Timor in 2022 in a move that has been seen to snub the Australian, New Zealand and other pacific Churches.
Since Pope Francis was elected in 2013, He has never visited Australia, New Zealand, or any Pacific islands despite numerous invitations.
The Holy Father's decision, or perhaps indecision, regarding travel, has worried Australian Catholics, with some saying they "feel forgotten".
Australia has also been left without a voting Cardinal, sparking other concerns amongst Australian Catholics.
One practising Catholic who spoke to Vox Fidei said that "Australia needs a papal visit; we are facing a tough time, both in politics and in the Church."
A man of Pacific Islander background said, "The islands are at risk of following Australia if the Church does not have a greater presence in the Pacific."
